Teenagers - we love them!
Aaaaaaaa eeeeek! You may say!
But we fear not the grumpy teenager...
We've seen them arriving at the studio for a family photoshoot, hands pushed deep into their jeans pockets, looking only at the floor, grunting acknowledging our presence, the flick of the head throwing the coiffed hair to one side revealing a look of total disgust at what we propose doing to them.
The before photo - seriously unimpressed boys.
Well dear parent have no fear, beneath that cynical unresponsive front there still resides your little baby, really I promise you he/she still exists, it's just that they are suffering a mild existential crisis, they are in the midst of saying goodbye to the baby in themselves and desperately trying to say hello to the grown up.
In our experience the family picture that we usually do at the beginning of the shoot is difficult for them, they cannot openly appear to be having any fun! Certainly not in front of their parents…
The after photo - obviously not as painful as they thought!
The pictures of them with their siblings and alone will be wonderful, I promise - the family picture always works out in the end too.
It seems that once alone in the studio with our photographer they become their usual affable selves and mighty cooperative, I realise this is hard to swallow, but it is true.
Pictures of teenagers can be very revealing in that you will probably be able to see the young adult in them, often our pictures belie the child's actual age and parents are often delighted to see the young man or woman emerging, a really magical moment.
So please, bring us your teenagers, we love 'em!
Thanks @taniabrownyoga for the Instagram photo and the not-so-grumpy teenage boys.
